Simulate Effect of Wall Insulation on Unheated Interior Conditions

Post by Mik »

Hi everyone,

A similar question was asked previously but it didn't answer my problem. I am trying to simulate the effect of wall insulation on an unheated interior condition (WUFI Pro). I want to see what will the wall layers and interior temperatures and relative humidity be simply by insulating the wall, without heating the interior space. I tried using the exterior climate on the right side, but it simply results in the same conditions on both sides, so I must be doing something wrong. How can I evaluate the added temperature to the assembly layers and interior space that is created by insulating the wall?

Thank you for the assistance.

Hi Mik,

WUFI Pro is a component assessment tool in which both the external and internal climate must be specified as boundary conditions. Therefore, the influence on the internal climate can only be assessed indirectly. This can be done by comparing the heat fluxes across the internal surface.
To do this, a climate appropriate to the situation should be selected for the interior.
In WUFI Pro the fluxes can exported using the ASCII-export: Menu Outputs -> ASCII-export...

Further possibility would be to use WUFI Plus, where you can can simulate whole buildings. Here the indoor climate is a result depending on the envelope
and the outdoor climate. But for that at least one room has to be modeled.
For more information see https://wufi.de/en/software/wufi-plus/.
