Air Pressure - Leakage

Post by C. Furtaw »

I am analyizing a wall section for two cases.
The first wall case consists of face brick, air space, Tyvec, OSB, insulation and gyp board interior.
In the second case the gyp board is removed allowing air leakage from the interior to the exterior.
Can WUFI simulate this event?
Thanks,
C. Furtaw

Dear Mr. Furtaw,

I'm afraid WUFI cannot really simulate this situation. The new WUFI 4.1 (to be released soon) can handle heat and moisture sources within the wall, and one source type is the "air change source" which can simulate air infiltration into a cavity, but the infiltrating air is assumed to come from outside, not from indoors.

So WUFI comes close, but can't really handle your specific question. If the indoor climate and the approximate conditions in the air space are known in advance, one might be able to set up heat sources and moisture sources which approximately simulate the effect of air infiltrating from indoors, but that would be very complicated and could give only very approximate results anyway.

Sorry,
Thomas
