Could anyone please suggest which type of climate file to use for extreme events such as driving rain, .WET, .DAT, .WAC, .IWC? I have been using .TRY files.

the WAC-format doesn´t need 8760 lines of data. If you want to start later the year, just fill the first column with zeros up to the date with the first values. Fill in as much values as you like.
The only thing to keep in mind doing this is to start the calculation at the time the WAC-File starts and end it at the last hour in the wac file. Else you will get an error in the calculation. If you don´t use a completely filled wac file, you cant calculate for several years.
