Modelling a wall separating a conditioned space from a unconditioned garage

Post by Rob Petruzzi » Mon Aug 16, 2021 11:14 pm -1100

Hi,
I'm new to WUFI and I'm trying to model an internal thermal envelope wall separating the conditioned part of a residential house from the unconditioned garage.
In terms of outdoor climate (i.e. the 'climate' of the garage) should I create/modify the weather file to account for the fact that the wall will not be exposed to any rain, wind, direct sun, etc. or is there a simplier way to define this boundary condition?

Thank you in advance.

Rob

Dear Rob,
there are different methods for that:
  • you could assume, that the temperature and relative humidity is the same like outdoor. In this case in the outdoor transfer coefficients set the adhering fraction of rain to zero or no rain and set short wave absorption as well as the long wave emission to zero
  • you could create an user-defined sine curve or also over the year constant with the values you assume in the garage
  • You can create your own climate file using "CreateClimateFile.xlsm" in the WUFI tool folder if you have values for your garage (for that you need at least values for T and RH)
