Karsten tube test

Hi,

I am planning on using the Karsten tube test to find the a-value of a façade on an 1800s building. From my results I will get the amount of water absorbed per 5 minute intervals and I am planning to run the test for 1 hour. This will result in ml/h .

I have been looking online for quite a few hours and cannot find anything on how to use this data in WUFI. How do I convert this into an a-value which I can use in WUFI/ use a comparable material in my analysis.

any help would be great.

Dear Kamil Hamela,

you should run the in-situ test on severeal positions on the surface to get a better impression. A brief overview (in german, for translation) can be found there (https://wufi.de/de/wp-content/uploads/sites/9/548.pdf).

For the evaluation, the amount of sucked in water should be plotted over the root of the time, for a correction we use a tool (also in german) for the conversion (https://wufi.de/de/wp-content/uploads/s ... g_Tool.zip ).

In WUFI you can use the a-value for the calculation of the water transport equations, therefor the material has to be unlocked then the Liquid transport coeffients for suction and redistribution ( within the material section) should be switched to "generate" then the input of a Water Adsorption Coefficient (a-value) is possible. The input in WUFI is in s^0,5 not in h^0,5 if your a-value is already in h^0,5 you have to convert it by dividing through 60.
