Modelling a flint wall

Post by ndmheath » Sun Aug 15, 2021 11:51 pm -1100

Hi All

I need to model an old (1800s) 500mm stone wall for retfofit. It's built mainly with impermeable flint and cement-based mortar.

Normally I would build up this wall assemby using the 'sandwich' method (stone - mortar - stone) set out in Historic Environment Scotland's Technical Paper 15, but in this case it presents issues: 1) there doesn't seem to be any comparable masonry material in the WUFI Pro database; and 2) even if there were, the 'sandwich' method doesn't feel realistic in this case as moisture within the mortar core would risk being 'trapped' between the impermeable stone layers.

Any thoughts on how to build up this wall in WUFI Pro to give a representative assessment?

Thanks,

Nick
