Dear Charles,

we received Windows Vista on Friday and will do tests with WUFI 4.1 this week. I will answer after the tests for further information.

Manfred,
Also, get WUFI 4.x suitable for Internet Explorer 7.x.

WUFI® and MS Windows Vista

Post by Manfred Kehrer » Wed Feb 07, 2007 2:05 am -1100

Dear Charles,

we made a test run on Windows Vista Buisness Version and everything was OK except of the online help system which is not supported anymore by Windows Vista.

What problems do you have?

Manfred,
My copy of WUFI works with Internet Explorer 5.5 and when installing Vista rejected the installation since I am using Explorer v 7.0. I couldn't get any further with the installation.

Dear Charles,

in this case I recommend to uninstall WUFI first. With the following installation process of Windows Vista we are not able to help you.

Please run the installation of WUFI then with administrator privilegs using your non time licensed serial no. and tell me exactly what the problem is otherwise we´re not able to help you.

We made Test runs with Vista Buisness Version
with the following results:

time licensed installation runs only with administrator privilegs
pre-installed example projects can not be overwritten without administrator privilegs.

We made the tests with WUFI installation file 4.1.4.357.5 which will be released this week.

Best Regards,

Manfred

IE Problem

Post by bvfs » Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:55 pm -1100

Hello!

I also had problems installing Wufi Pro 4.1 (Release: 4.1.5.361.DB.24.33)
on a pre-installed Windows Vista Computer.

Wufi requested MS Internet Explorer 5.5 although IE 7 was allready installed.
I reinstalled and updated IE 7 to the latest, but WUFI-Setup was not able to find the IE Installation.

Whe I finally installed Firefox, Wufi immediately accepted the browser and started to install, now working fine!

Greetings from the

Hi,

for historical reasons some pre-installation checks are required.

In 2000 (just before Microsoft released Win2000) the requirements for a working WUFI were:
ADO (Active Dataaccess Objects) in Version higher than 2.1 (to access the database)
ComCtrl.dll in Version higher then 4.2 (to display all the icons correctly)

Due to license restrictions one was not allowed to update ComCtrl.dll separately. Users running Win95 needed DCom95 components to install ADO - the distribution of these components was also prohibited by license. So the only possibility to successfully perform a WUFI Installation was a version of Internet Explorer (Version higher than 4.1 - except on WindowsNT4, but ServicePack4 was needed on that OS) which fullfilled all former requirements by updating/supplying these components. And after registration with MS one is allowed (thanks god) to distribute InternetExplorer (IBP-Holzkirchen Customization Code 37AB311527)

This leads to the check for InternetExplorer (as well as the OS-Version). And in early 2001 the only reliable possibility (due to MS) to determine the version of IE was to check the fileversion of Shdocvw.dll. But this file is not any longer part of IE7 - so the check for InternetExplorer fails. But maybe firefox copies a version of that file to the system which could explain the posted success.

There is no need for InternetExplorer by WUFI itself. The check for IE is/was only because of license restrictions of MS (caused by the browser war - for all who can remember that time).

Hope this helps

Veit

The terms MS, Windows2000, NT4, InternetExplorer, DCom95, ADO - in short almost all terms - are trademark of Microsoft
